John G. Alden Designed Classic Sloop. Built in North Sydney by W.L.Holmes & Co. in 1934. IREX II's hull is New Zealand kauri on spotted gum frames, with lead ballast on the bottom of the full keel. She is 33' on deck plus a bowsprit and boomkin, 10'9" beam and 5'8" draft. 7.50 tons displacement. The decking is 1 1/4" plank with dynal sheathed ply over, which makes it very strong and water tight. The engine is an inboard 2 cyl. Bukh, 24 hp new in 1995, and has done approx 3000 hrs. Through to a 3 blade prop. The motor starts and runs very sweetly, as it has had services every 4 months ( oil, filters, anode etc. ). There is an 80 litre diesel fuel tank. All bronze port holes and fittings are original to the boat, including the nav lights. The interior is spacious and airy thanks to 8 port holes and 5 hatches. Even on hot days it stays cool down below. Beautiful timber fitout with silky oak and cedar, with lovely fixtures and fittings. 6'1" headroom in saloon, 2 single berths and a double v berth up forward which are very comfy. Plenty of storage under berths and in 2 lockers located forward. There are 6 lifejackets, current flares, v sheet etc., all the required saftey gear is on the boat. The EPIRB is just three months old. The galley to port has a recessed 2 burner metho stove that is gimballed so you can boil the kettle even under sail! The stainless ice box has had a new Waeco fridge unit installed (12v and 240v), and if you turn it up enough it becomes a great freezer. There is plenty of storage under the sink, and a foot operated pump is there for the water. 100 litre water tank. The head is to starboard, which is a new Jabsco electric toilet with a holding tank. There is a sink with foot operated pump as well. There is an 8' ply dinghy with oars, when traveling along the dinghy sits upside down on the cabin roof. There are fittings in place for this, and it is handy when it's raining to cover the top hatch. All the hatches are restored and oiled, they all have covers for them, as well as a sail cover and a massive boom tent to put up when at anchor. The boom tent covers over half the boat, this is the beauty of a long boom. The ground tackle includes a 25 lbs plough anchor with 66' of 3/8" chain and rope, plus a 45 lbs spare anchor as well. There is a manual anchor winch, but this has been removed from the boat, but will be included in the sale. Power is supplied by 2 new 105 amp hour dry cell deep cycle house batteries and 1 starting battery for the engine. There is a new 40 watt solar panel and the alternator charges as well. All internal lighting is 12v. The main saloon light fitting is the original glass fitting. There is the original sestral clock and barometer on the cabin wall where the saloon light switch is. There is a new tri colour light on the top of the mast with a new wind indicator and a new vhf mast head aerial. The mast has been removed from the boat stripped down and redone using the epoxy boat coate system. 3 coats of non yellowing UV stable epoxy resin and 5 coats clear urathane over the top. All standing rigging has been renewed using quality Ronstan fittings and new stainless wire rope as well. The running backstays have been replaced as well. The rig is in top condition now. The electronics are all new Navman, DSC VHF linked to the chartplotter, a 27 meg radio and depth sounder. There is a radio cassette player with 2 speakers. 1 auto bilge pump and a manual whale gusher pump, that both work well. Auto helm 2000 auto pilot as well, in good working order. Sail wardrobe includes, Main and genoa, replaced 1995, working jib, new storm sail (never used), and spare genoa that is larger, but could be used up the outer forestay as a floater in light winds. All sails are in good condition. Sloop rig, fractional 3/4, spruce mast and boom, with twin spreaders. All blocks on the mast have been replaced and the chev at the top has been serviced. 2 deck winches and 2 halyard winches. The down haul on the goose neck has been restored to working order and once set the helm is very light. Tiller steering. All new Ronstan staunchion rails with new stainless life lines fitted. Irex II has been fully repainted outside & new antifoul in January, all hatches restored and most varnish work has been completed. The cockpit is beech lined, and very open and airy, can seat 6 - 8 people well. This boat has its original paperwork and rego. She is in great condition, her hull is sound and there is no rot anywhere. She will pass any survey, with flying colours. Boat is moored at Tweed Heads but can be delivered to Sydney or Brisbane for a fee. Owners have had so many compliments regarding Irex II, she is really very special. The timber work is really fine and she does not have the gawdy look that some timber interiors have. It has been a really hard decision for the owners to sell. They have over 20 years in the maritime industry and this is such a lovely yacht . Everything works, she is absolutely ready to sail. Like to go see or get further information? Take the first step.
