Ideal Beginners Yacht....Rigged for Stay Aboard Cruising

These Sunbirds are super pocket cruisers. Designed by J B Brook in NZ they are still a popular class racer with many clubs and associations actively supporting the marque. At 25' in length and with an 8'2" beam most were built with a retracting keel and low slung cabin lines in the style of a day racer. They were actually built to be trailerable and whilst "Tokay" does not have a trailer, she could be trailed if the new owner saw fit. However this vessel has a shoal draft keel, making her ideal for Gippsland Lakes, or MacQuarrie Lake and the rear section of the cabin is raised with a cockpit bimini and full camper covers making her suitable for weekending or extended cruising. To that end the vessel also has a sink, stove, fridge, stainless steel stern charcoal BBQ, hot and cold showers (courtesy of the engine heat exchanger), 70 litre water tank, 4 comfortable bunks, electric toilet, dinette and lounge settee. The auxillary power is provided by a Volvo Penta shaft drive unit, fed by a 55 litre tank and sparked up by twin HD batteries with an isolator switch and a 1500 watt inverter. The Volvo pushes the "bird" along comfortably at 6 knots using a miserly 1.2 litres per hour on the way. The electrical power supply is supported by two very effective turret mounted solar panels. The sloop rigged "Tokay" can be sailed single handed, all ropes and lines and halyards adjacent to the steering station and the vessel is idela for beginners and sails very kindly. The headsail is a self furler and the main is a boom furler simplfying the handling of the vessel even further. The sail wardrobe is complimented with an asymetrical spinnaker ( for those long runs) and Barlow winches take care of all the hard work. The vessel has a GPS, sounder 27 meg radio, autopilot and CD AM/FM music system. The Sunbird is also equipped with an electric anchor winch, wipers, swimming platform and a stern access ladder. A full compliment of safety gear completes the inventory. This is an excellent first yacht, family yacht, cruising vessel and at a very affordable price. First in will definitely be best dressed here and what a way to get on the water!
