Method of construction:
Marine plywood over Nyatoh frames with Meranti longitudinals and Jarrah gunwales. The thwarts are made of Paulonia laminated with marine ply. All joins are made with brass screws and epoxy glue. The outside of the hull is painted with two part marine paint and the interior with marine varnish.
Size and style: Built to a classic New England dory design except that it has fixed thwarts (for strength) and a (retractable) rudder. It is fitted with a pair of retractable bronze rowlocks for rowing with dingy paddles. It is 18 feet or 5.5 metres long and 1.5 metres wide (not counting the outriggers).
Safety features: Life jackets for both adults and children, standard marine two way radio, a 406MHz Distress Beacon registered with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Distress Flares.
Propulsion: This boat was designed and built to row on open or inland waters. It is fitted with a sliding seat, foot stretcher and stainless steel outriggers all of which can be detached. The use of these accoutrements with sculling oars provide a comfortable and efficient means of propulsion. The sculling oars as well as the dingy paddles come with the boat. The rudder can be set so as to compensate for the effect of wind when rowing solo.
Transportation: The boat has its own light weight, licensed trailer fitted with a winch allowing it to be easily launched and retrieved from a boat ramp. There is also a small wheeled cradle useful for taking the boat over a beach by hand. Owners used this on Rottnest Island.
